Task 2

Reflection

I found this task particularly enjoyable as Alice In Wonderland is my favourite story. My final four icons depict the narrative as they are four of the most iconic features of the film and book. Although I feel some of my icons are better than others, for example I’m particularly happy with the Cheshire Cat icon and less so with the Queen of Hearts icon. This is because I found some of the icons far easier to envision and then create than I did others. Overall, my icons are simple yet visually effective and I am happy with the final outcome.

Evaluation

My final piece meets the brief successfully. I’ve managed to create a set of four icons that depict a mainstream popular narrative, while keeping the narrative in tact. In addition to this, I have successfully taken feedback on board, and changed one of my icons from the caterpillar to the more instantly recognisable, Mad Hatters hat. All of the finished icons are drawn like a cartoon, with the thick black outline, to reflect the original film from 1951. As well as this, each icon features a small amount of a singular colour. I think that this makes them all appear uniform while simultaneously adding an original style to the icons.

  1. I think you’ve captured the key plot points of the book / film. I think even if you hadn’t given the title away in the blog post i would have still been able to identify what they represented. I would have maybe gone with the rabbit or a stopwatch instead of the caterpillar as a iconic symbol. It would have been good to see these as graphical representations rather than sketches in a pad, but appreciate the colour labelling. This is a nice start and i encourage you to continue developing these further.
