Reflection
I really enjoyed working as a whole class to contribute to this task of watching the sequence, analysing it’s visual content and then communicating and signifying what the core themes, atmosphere and genre of the moments on screen are, then producing a piece of experimental sound. However, I found this task to be the most challenging of all as it was difficult to determine what a sound would sound like after being recorded and also getting the timings correct.
Evaluation
My group had to record the sound of the door opening, we did this by using the sound of an actually door combined with tapping an empty dustbin to get the first part of the sound, which I believe sounds very effective in the final piece. We also had to record the sound for the footsteps on the stairs which we achieved by tapping a show against metal, as the the stairs on the clip are metal. This also came out well however when editing, I decided to cut out a couple of the steps as I felt they weren’t needed.
When putting together the final piece, I found that I wasn’t happy with some of the final sounds. In order to overcome this, I added a background sound of wind when the ‘Visitor’ opens the door. As well as this, I changed the thud to a door closing as I felt it suited the sequence better. Overall, I am happy with my final piece as it fits the brief and I have also made some personal changes.
